Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce!

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 8 hours

Makes: 4-6 serves

Freezing: Freezes well

Ingredients you will need:

  • 1/2 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 500 gm Beef Mince (I use 80% Beef, 20% Fat)
  • 1/4 cup Red Wine
  • 350mls Tomato Passata
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp Dried Italian Herbs
  • 1/2 Brown Onion, Diced
  • 1 Celery Stalk, Diced
  • 1 small Carrot, Diced
  • 1 Chicken Stock Cube
  • 1/4 cup Tomato Paste
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar

How to make this recipe:

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan over med-high heat. Add mince and onion and cook until mince is browned and onion is translucent, breaking up mince as it cooks. Add wine and cook until reduced by half.
  2. Transfer the cooked mince mixture to a slow cooker. Add all of the remaining ingredients plus 1/4 cup of water and mix to combine. Cook for 8 hours on low, stirring occasionally.
  3. Season with Salt & Pepper to taste.

Serving Suggestions: Serve with Cooked Pasta and Parmesan Cheese or use for other recipes that call for Bolognese sauce.

Batch Freezer Cooking: You can double, triple or quadruple (or more) this recipe if you want to make enough to freeze for later. Once cooked, cool completely and portion into quantities that suit your family (I portion 2 cups). Freeze until needed, then thaw and reheat.
