Homemade Marinara Sauce Recipe
This recipe is a fantastic way to be able to make an easy and delicious pasta sauce in bulk and keep it in the freezer for when you need it. It's great for any recipe that calls for tomato sauce, like a simple pasta dish, lasagna, pasta bakes. Jars of tomato sauce at the store is about $2 per jar. This recipe makes 10 cups, which works out to be at least half the price, if not less.
It also gives you the benefit of being able to choose what you want to put in to flavor the sauce to your tastes and you know exactly what is going into it.
This recipe makes approx. 10 cups
- 1/4 cup. Olive oil
- 1 cup Onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 6 x 400 gm can diced tomatoes
- 1 tsp. dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp.Red Pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Handful fresh basil, washed
Step 2. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant (~1 min). Add diced tomatoes, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper and basil. Bring to a boil, turn heat to low and allow to simmer for 20-30 minutes.
Step 3. Once the time has elapsed, allow to cool completely before separating into labelled Ziploc bags. I add 2 cups per bag because this equals the same as 1 jar from the store.
