Sandwhich Bread

  • 60 gm Butter
  • 300 ml Milk
  • 1.5 tbsp. Honey
  • 425 gm Plain Flour + extra if required
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp. Yeast

Step 1. In a small saucepan, add milk, butter and honey and heat until butter is melted. Allow to cool to blood temperature (you can also do this in the microwave)

Step 2. In a mixing bowl, add flour, yeast and salt. Add the warm milk and mix. You can do this by hand or using a stand mixer. You want to knead for about 10 minutes by hand or 7 minutes using a stand mixer. The end result should be a smooth and sticky dough.

Step 3. Place the dough into an oiled bowl and cover until it doubles in size, this will depend on the temperature of your room. Approximately about 1 hour.

Step 4. Grease a non-stick 15 cm x 25 cm loaf tin with spray oil (if you have a loaf pan that isn't non-stick, also line it baking paper)

Step 5. Press down gently and create a rectangle about 25 cm by 15 cm (approximately the same width as your loaf pan). Roll tightly and then press the sides into the loaf to face the seam. Place the dough into the loaf pan, cover and allow to rise until doubled (about 30 minutes).

Step 6. Preheat your oven to 180 C and place the bread in the over for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown. A tick to know when it's done is to tap it gently and listen for a hollow sound.

Step 7. Remove from the oven, place on a cooling rack and then slice and enjoy with your favorite sandwich ingredients.
