Kmart's miracle cleaner - Vacuum for pennies

Over the last few days and weeks, a vacuum cleaner craze has swept the nation. Due to glowing reviews by a fellow blogger, Kmart stores are selling out of their vacuum cleaners.  Getting your hands on one right now is like mining for gold. Luckily, I snapped up the last one at a local Kmart (I went to 3, before I found one). I'm in love, as much as one can be with a household cleaner.

3 years ago I spent $299 on a name brand vacuum cleaner that I thought would give me great cleaning power and longevity. Nope, pieces started breaking off straight away, the lithium ion battery stopped charging properly and the rotating brush clogged easily with hair and dust, even though the machine said that it was made to combat pet hair. It turns out, when my handy man Dad pulled it apart, after the motor started to sound like a rocket ship every time you turned it on, not only was it not very good quality, but an integral part, that shouldn't have passed quality assurance, did.

So, hearing that the Kmart vacuum was worth every penny. I decided to spend my Sunday afternoon, going to as many Kmart's as I needed to, to find one. It was worth it.

I got the vacuum cleaner home, and un-boxed it right away. I was impressed, almost immediately. I purchased the 2200W bagless, multi-cyclonic vacuum with a HEPA filter, for only $75.00. What I thought would be cheap plastic due to the low cost, isn't. The vacuum, hoses, canister and attachments are well made, and sturdy. It is also compact and stores well in a small space. It comes with only 2 extra attachments, an upholstery tool and a crevice tool with brush, which for me is perfect. They are the only two that I use, and I don't have to worry about storing additional attachments that I know I won't use.

I started using it within minutes of un-boxing, the parts fit together easily and the cord retracts nicely into the machine. I could never have imagined what would come out of my carpets, considering that I vacuum daily, aiming to keep pet hair to a very minimum.

My biggest reason for a new vacuum was the carpets, most of my house is tiled, so it's easy to use a dust mop and wet mop to keep them spotless. A carpeted bedroom and living room rug, need something more. As they are breeding grounds for both dust and allergens, it's important to me for them to be as clean as I can get them.

The box even came in handy for storing it at the bottom of my wardrobe. I like to take good care of my appliances, so I cut the box in half, and used it for storage.

I have no affiliation with Kmart, but if you are looking for a cheap vacuum, I would recommend this one. It's also very frugal friendly, and if it's anything like my Kmart $7.50 kettle, it should last a long time.
